France and Finland don’t meet on online poker
Saturday, May 31st, 2008France and Finland are two countries that openly propagate online poker. However the difference between the two lies in the fact that France has many strict regulations and government monopoly regarding online gambling. On the contrary, Finland is a country where everything is unregulated on matters pertaining to online gambling.
However there has been some news about France thinking about reconsidering their stance in online gambling because of the pressure it is going through from the EU. On the contrary, though Finland does not have any regulations about online poker, the government is now considering the implementation of a possible new tax on this regard.
According to a new report released recently, the Finns had spent over 50 million Euros on online gambling in the last year. It is because of this turnover that the government is considering how beneficial this would be if a slice of the earnings went to the government.
So although online betting is not permitted in France, the European Commission of the EU is now forcing France to conform to the regulations of the EU treaty. The EU is placing more emphasis on the free competition that exists between other member nations.
